Overview

The client is one of the largest private oil and gas exploration and production companies in India, accounting for more than a quarter of India's domestic crude oil production. They were facing operational challenges that hindered growth and efficiency. By partnering with Velocis, they embarked on a transformative journey to migrate applications to the cloud, modernize frameworks, and strengthen security.

Requirements

As the client’s operations expanded and matured, the company faced several challenges with its existing application ecosystem:

  1. Manual processes and siloed data were impacting operational efficiency and decision-making.
  1. Legacy applications hosted on-premise impacted performance and availability and were driving up infrastructure costs. There was a pressing need to migrate to the cloud to improve scalability and optimize the IT budget.
  1. Outdated application frameworks were hindering agility and needed replacement.
  1. With growing cyber threats, strengthening application security posture and enabling proactive vulnerability management was a key priority. Implementing secure SDLC processes and integrating security into DevOps pipelines was a non-negotiable.
  1. Massive volumes of data generated from sensors and IoT devices at oil fields needed to be effectively leveraged for real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and production optimization. Building big data and advanced analytics capabilities was essential.

They needed a strategic partner to help migrate applications to the cloud, modernize frameworks, strengthen security, and provide end-to-end application support to ensure high availability and performance of critical business systems.

Solution

Velocis collaborated with the client’s digital and IT leadership team to assess their existing systems and define a comprehensive transformation roadmap aligned with business priorities. Key highlights of the engagement include:

  • Systematic migration of critical workloads and applications from on-premise data centers to cloud platforms.
  • Autoscaling, high-availability architectures, and optimized cloud resource utilization.
  • Re-architecting monolithic applications into microservices and API-driven components and using containerized application workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Implementing secure coding practices, static code analysis, and vulnerability scanning in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Automating security patching and incident response workflows while conducting regular penetration testing and security audits.
  • Managed services that provided 24x7 application support covering incident management, bug fixing, minor enhancements, and new development requests.

Business outcomes

Velocis' comprehensive application services have been instrumental in propelling the client’s digital transformation journey to new heights.  While the modernized application stack improved business agility, operational efficiency, and user experience, the data and analytics initiatives enabled real-time visibility, predictive insights, and data-driven decision-making.

Key outcomes delivered include:

  1. Cloud migration was a major step that made the client’s systems more scalable, ensured better availability, and at the same time reduced infrastructure costs.
  1. The 24/7 managed services support ensured that operational issues, if any, were swiftly addressed, minimizing downtime and enhancing productivity.
  1. The re-architecting of monolithic applications into microservices and API-driven components not only reduced technical debt but also achieved a higher degree of maintainability.
  1. The improved user-friendliness and cross-device portability boosted adoption rates and user satisfaction, fostering a culture of digital collaboration.
  1. The modernization initiative yielded significant cost savings for the client. By optimizing their IT infrastructure and automating processes, Velocis helped reduce the expenses associated with maintaining old and legacy systems.
